And besides, Luci lady was a mage, right? She could help protect them!

As they neared the mountain, she indeed spotted a large alcove and a smaller, but deeper, cave to its right.

What was that? The sound reverberated within one of the caverns.

“I think we should try somewhere els—” There it went again. And there the creature was. Staring right at them.

Dammit.

Rémi froze, eyes widened as he took in the sight of the monster. Dark greenish black, with beady eyes and nasty teeth. A troll! He whimpered and ducked behind Lucielle, clearly thinking she could save them.

Seaghdh cursed under his breath. Damnit! A fucking troll, of all things! He couldn’t be seen… but he’d have to try and kill it from where he was. He was crouched in a tree above the two, in a position to hit the creature with his arrows. Well.. he’d better, as it was roaring and beginning to charge at his brother and that woman.

He nocked an arrow and aimed….

She was a mage: capable of performing illusions, wards, lights, and shields. What she could not do was what they needed most: fire. Despite training, the mastery of that element still eluded her. Her tumultuous emotional undercurrent would probably cause a fireball to explode in their faces!

“Ahh…run away, Remi! I’ll distract it.” With enough noise and movement, surely the thing would go after her instead of him, right? Lucielle waited to move, however, until she knew Remi was actually going to run away. In the meantime, she cast a ward and shield-flesh to delay it.

Sister Correspondence

Dear Elder Sister,

I finally got your last letter! I’m sorry I took so long to reply. Father and I had to take a detour in Valenwood on our last trade route. I’d tell you why, but that’d be bad. Well, who would we have to be careful around in the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion? You know who! So that’s the answer! (I think I’m getting better at this writing-between-the-lines business!)

Anyway, guess who I got to meet on our detour?? Oh wait, this is a letter, you can’t guess! It was an Imga! Unfortunately, he was rather rude. Something about us being dirty men and wood mer. They only seem to like Altmer! Especially the ones within the Dominion.

And speaking of Altmer, you need to tell me more about yours! He’s gorgeous, right? He has to be! Almost all Altmer men are. It’s too bad most are also—well, you know.

Father says we might be able to take some time off to visit you if we make enough on our current route! What are Skyrim Nords like? The Bosmer men here are so fun, but I’ve told you this before! Oh, I’ve been thinking about filing my teeth! I met a hot Bosmer man with pointed, filed teeth, but Father led me away before I could speak to him. He must have been one of those really wild Bosmers! He was just so alluring…Although this Enolin sounds like such a cutie! You have to introduce me, you know!

I’m really glad you’ve got someone to keep you company now. You were never alone back home. Always with Brukke. Ah, I have a gift for her when I visit—because I will come to Markarth to see you sometime!

With Love,

Peneaux

Dear Penny,

That must have been some lengthy and backwoods detour, to delay your letter for so long. I hope everything went well!

Be careful around those particular Bosmer. You remember what Father said about them: “You don’t want to get on their bad-sides, unless you want to end up in their stomachs”.

Yes, Enolin is adorable. But don’t tell him I said that. He hates it.

You can forget about Rorinil. We’re not He’s no longer We’re done. You won’t meet him.

I’m about to explore a Dwemer ruin with Enolin. Currently, I’m preparing for the trip. In a few days I’ll leave Markarth for Whiterun—that’s where Enolin currently is—not sure why he’s there. I’m sure he told me at one point. We should probably find a mercenary or sellsword to help us, but I don’t think either of us have enough septims for that.

I’m looking forward to seeing you and Father again! I hope mother can find someone to mind the shop for her so she can visit too. I miss everyone. Brukke will be glad to see you too.

Your Loving Elder Sister,

Lucielle

Hag Rock…that placed was home to hag ravens. Or so she’d heard. “Yes…” She said absentmindedly, looking around for any possible danger. “I don’t know this area very well. Do you know any nearby caves?”

He nodded and started leading her towards a large mountain, which would undoubtedly have at least a small cave or three. He didn’t know which mountain it was, so he didn’t know which caves he might find, but assumed that everything there would be safer than staying outside with the sabercats!

And besides, Luci lady was a mage, right? She could help protect them!

“No…well, I don’t have a house! And also, it wouldn’t be safe to go to Markarth…they don’t like Forsworn there, after all.” She grimaced. She didn’t like Forsworn either. Just Remi. “Where do you live? Can I take you there?” Lucielle tried to sound pleasant, but a slight apprehension and distaste shone through that mask.

He looked at her, thinking. She didn’t really look like she wanted to visit his home, and he sort of understood. His brothers probably wouldn’t like that idea either. But he wanted very much to get somewhere safe, where a sabercat couldn’t get them.

“Um… Rémi live Hag Rock…” He mumbled, and hugged tightly to her arm. “B-but… caves is good place stay, right?”

Hag Rock…that placed was home to hag ravens. Or so she’d heard. “Yes…” She said absentmindedly, looking around for any possible danger. “I don’t know this area very well. Do you know any nearby caves?”

Lucielle made sure to stand up straight. She was the leader, the protector, in this case after all! “Uhh…well, I can’t take you to Markarth, or any other outpost on the Reach…hm.” She continued to think of a destination as she lead them in the opposite direction of the snapping branch.

Rémi just dutifully followed behind her, glancing back every so often to make sure there was no hint of fur or claw. Those big cats were really scary, and he whimpered as they walked, not quite feeling safe yet.

“Is can take Rémi Luci lady house?” He asked quietly, so the cat wouldn’t hear them.

“No…well, I don’t have a house! And also, it wouldn’t be safe to go to Markarth…they don’t like Forsworn there, after all.” She grimaced. She didn’t like Forsworn either. There wasn’t too much to hide in on her chest, but he didn’t seem to mind. Lucielle continued to rub his back as they waited in silence. When it seemed like nothing was after them, she spoke, “I think we’re safe! What do you say we finish these crowns and get out of here, huh?”

He peeked up, and then nodded at her, reaching back to pick his flower crown off the ground and standing up. He held onto her sleeve, just in case, though. It wouldn’t do to let the sabercat think it could get you!

Lucielle made sure to stand up straight. She was the leader, the protector, in this case after all! “Uhh…well, I can’t take you to Markarth, or any other outpost on the Reach…hm.” She continued to think of a destination as she lead them in the opposite direction of the snapping branch.

lackadaisical-lucielle replied to your post: Enolin. I need a Sphere Centurion. Would you like…

Yes, you should ask. I can travel to Whiterun, and we’ll plot out a ruin that’s relatively near that city.

This sounds like loads of fun!  When should I be expecting you?

As soon as possible. Perhaps in a week? Since I need to travel all the way from Markarth. I need to find a cart to buy or loan as well. We can’t carry much with simply our own two selves, can we?
