And besides, Luci lady was a mage, right? She could help protect them!
As they neared the mountain, she indeed spotted a large alcove and a smaller, but deeper, cave to its right.
What was that? The sound reverberated within one of the caverns.
“I think we should try somewhere els—” There it went again. And there the creature was. Staring right at them.
Dammit.
Rémi froze, eyes widened as he took in the sight of the monster. Dark greenish black, with beady eyes and nasty teeth. A troll! He whimpered and ducked behind Lucielle, clearly thinking she could save them.
Seaghdh cursed under his breath. Damnit! A fucking troll, of all things! He couldn’t be seen… but he’d have to try and kill it from where he was. He was crouched in a tree above the two, in a position to hit the creature with his arrows. Well.. he’d better, as it was roaring and beginning to charge at his brother and that woman.
He nocked an arrow and aimed….
She was a mage: capable of performing illusions, wards, lights, and shields. What she could not do was what they needed most: fire. Despite training, the mastery of that element still eluded her. Her tumultuous emotional undercurrent would probably cause a fireball to explode in their faces!
“Ahh…run away, Remi! I’ll distract it.” With enough noise and movement, surely the thing would go after her instead of him, right? Lucielle waited to move, however, until she knew Remi was actually going to run away. In the meantime, she cast a ward and shield-flesh to delay it.
